Default Acrylic or not!

At the end of this month my 91 Camaro RSis having some much needed paint work done, though this excellent webb site I have got the colour code, so it should be possible to get a true match even over here in the UK. But my question is, what type of paint would have been usedfrom new? I think it is some type of acrylic but i`m notsure. Your help and advice will be most welcome.Respect to you all. UK Chris.

from the factory, you would have a two-stage, basecoat-clearcoat system on you car. the waterbased acrylics (which are also two-stage) just started coming out in the last few years, and just recently have started coming out in the aftermarket

Thank you 1969 SS. For putting me on the right track. When the car is painted and polished I shall post some pics.

if you get the car painted, you are going to want to let the paint cure for about a month before you wax it. also, if you wash it before then, you want to use a real mild car wash to clean it with

doesn't that suck? I hate everytime I get one of my cars painted for that one reason alone. I am actually going to detail and wax one of my cars over the next couple of days, for the first time after new paint
