so i got a challange
im pretty sure my friend has the upper hand on this one.. but i will probably still race him. He just bought a 2002 VW golf GTI VR6. its a 6 speed manual transmission.. i went with him when he went to test drive it. the car feels pretty quick..
he is new to driving stick though.. well he learned from me about a year ago, but his old car was automatic. so the only time he drove stick was when he drove my car.. i saw him having a little trouble when he test drove the golf but im sure hes gotten a little bit more used to it.
we might race this weekend. how do you guys think the race will go.. if he launches and shifts ok and i do better?
if he launches bad and i do good? ideas.. what is his power compared to mine?

Very interesting. I am looking into getting a 3.8l (I don't even own a camaro yet but want one soon). My friend has an 06 VW Jetta GLI. I am assuming they are close to the same. But his is auto with the techtronic shift thing. He spent a good 15k on it and I would love to get a car for 3-5k that can beat his. I was looking at the specs and the 3.8l has 200 hp with 225 torque at 5200 rpm or something like that whereas my friends GLI (has turbo) has 200 hp with 207 torque that is supposed to kick in at 2200 roms or so. With those numbers I assume he will have a much quicker acceleration. I am also assuming that the GTI and GLI are basically the same. Let me know how it goes as I am looking into something along the same lines as you... eventually...

Should be a good race as they are very close on times and power. You have a little bit of torque on him so i would say if you can keep traction off the line it should be a very close race.

My brother has an 07 GTI with the paddle shift, it will run 9.15 in the 1/8th mile...factory stock.

That would add up to around a 14.27 1/4 mile. There is a big difference from a 2.0T and the 2.8L in the VR6. Plus the guy is new to driving stick and this is probaly the fastest car he has every driven i would expect him to run a low 15 the same time a stock 3.8 should run.

Right on thanks for correcting me (musicman). But i still say a very good and close race. On a side note what size rims and tires are you running on that thing maroman?
