To race in Japan is a completely differant thing than here in the states. I had a dream that after I built the turbo trueno look-alike, that I could race it in Japan. lol, both the build and the after plan were so far fetched, that it sounds funny now.

They also have a lot of road race tracks, not as common as drifting. That's waht I wanted to do with the corolla I had in mind.

they can be.
a GTI R32 will walk all over your 3.8 and still get 30MPG+ highway. thats just one example.
This was also in that worthless rant I attempted to post, I was going to say any car can be made to go fast with enough money, some more so than others.
But I still stand with the fact that economy cars were not built for speed.

R32 is fast stock. Also look at the cobalt SS/SC, MS3 and MS6. If you need to look back at older cars GSX/TSI, MSP in there times where good cars for the buck and still got high 20s low 30s mpg. We never got any of the good stuff from Japan. Look at the 4AGE 20valve, and celica all track.

Trueno's are also called ae92's I beleive. You could get them in Japan with a turbo charged 4agze engine. I believe that trueno is turbo charged, see the vents in the bumper for the intercooler? These cars are very hard to find, that's why I wanted to make a clone with an American model corolla. They're very similar. All the "a" engines have the same motor mounts, so I could get a corolla with a 4afe engine, and swap in a 4agze engine, and have a wiring harness custom made.
