So I took the Z28 out for a quick cruise yesterday, and I came across a 69 SS 396 4sp Chevelle... beautiful blue... We got to chatting, and decided to give a few runs, So one race we stop at the red lights, and wait for the green, I rev up to 3000 RPM, and when the lights turned, We both slam on the go pedal. I got the jump on him and kept about a fender ahead the whole race to 100 MPH, we were laughing, decided to go again, so I do the same launch, this time it was a tie... No one pulled on the other all the way to 100 MPH again... So we went again, and this time I launched at 3500 RPM, and he got the jump on me as I spun a few seconds... he won by a fender... So im quite impressed with this car, the modded small block stayed with a cammed and carbed 396 BB chev 4sp standard... Not bad for a 327 small block 3 sp auto...

 

not bad... those 396 cars only had about 375 hp in those huge cars... but they sound mean as hell.

 

yeah, they were RATED at 375... just like the ZL1 427 Cobra Jet was RATED at 425HP LMAO....
He's got a Cam and Demon 6 barrel carb, He should be in the 420-440 Range...

 

yep easy, but may be tuned wrong..he should have pulled away in the top end easy.

 

IDK... He's got 4.10's, runs out of gear quickly...

 

plus im running a pretty modded 327... No credit to me, I bought it like that...

 

yeah, but if he stayed with you in the low end he should have pulled you in the high..... I'm just thinkin the 396 handles like the 454, but I'm sure it's a total different beast.

 

Im not too sure, I thought the 396 was a de tuned 427... I may be wrong on that though... But the 454 turbo jet was rated at 360 Hp...and the 396 at 325 - 350 - 375. But had more TQ than the 396 did... Either way, Im impressed with the Z... cant wait for the spray...

 

Im sure your Z would rape mine though lol... what do you ahve done to yours? other than the 454 lol...

 

oh plus there is nothing in my car that isn't needed.
