Default Help: 335i vs LT1 Z28

My bud called me and he's like

-Hey would you race a beemer?
-Whose?
-There's this guy who's talking ****. He says he'll race you for money.
-What's he got?
-325i or 335i. Not sure.
-Pffffffft. Yeah dude, of course. I'll smoke him.

I came home and looked up the specs. 4.9 seconds 0-60? I couldn't believe my eyes.

Now here's the question. I know he'll get me off the line (with me spinning and whatnot) but will I catch up after that? I only have about 1/4th of a mile. And, how do I launch to minimize the spin and maximize the acceleration?

My car is pretty much stock, except for K&N CAI, high flow single cat, and flowmasters. I do have staggered Z06 rims and tires but with the cold nights in socal's dry weather it doesn't help.

I also have a cutout but I'm not sure if opening that will help the performance. Will it?

335i is gonna rape you hard core. it's a TT 3.0L I6, 300bhp, 300btq. tune only have gotten them WELL into the 12's. iirc i saw a tune only one run a 12.4 @ 116mph. they scoot. as much as i hate to say it, you're LT1 just aint gonna cut it this time.

So any tips on launching? What's the easiest/cheapest mod that'd would make my car a match?

Some 3.73 gears might help but I think his top end is going to leave you.

for getting a better launch, just practice. the LT1 powered f-body's are the hardest to launch because of the peak tq being at 2500rpm.

if you want to out run him, you're gonna need at least heads/cam.

yeah my boss at work has a 2010 bmw 335 with the sport package twin turbo and i have my 94 z28 lt1, cai, k&n, 3" exhaust, flowmaster, lowered 2", falken tires, and he will smoke my car all day long, he wont totally embarass me but he will beat me all the way through. but what do you expect my car is 16 years older 10 times the miles and non-turbo, not to mention my cars worth maybe $4k and his costs $60k. so i'm fine with having the 2nd fastest car at work.
