i got my 1995 camaro v6 3.8, my car suprisingly has alot of kick for a v6. Bout a month after i got it i was at a stop light and a plamouth roadrunner pulled up next to me with a 400 in it i think, i could tell he was lookin at me so when it turned green i stepped on it, we were neck an neck then the next light turned red so we stopped and then took off again this time there was a long stretch of road and i got way ahead of him then had to slow down to turn then he does that bull **** where he flies right passed me but i just sit there and laugh, i hate ppl who fly right by after losing like they are hella pissed off.

 

You know, that is a really interesting match up the more I think about it. Probably it was a 383 Roadrunner that was the most common big V8 in them. I think they were rated at 335 HP but that was back in the days when people used SAE gross rather than net probably about 235-240 HP by today's standards and given it might be a bit tired or low on modern pump gas, maybe running the equivalent of 235 HP. With a more modern trans and car in your Camaro it would be a really superb match (theRoadrunner is not significantly heavier than your Camaro although it is much bigger on the outside it was made before all the safety equipment had to be added)

I would think a 400 powered roadrunner would easily be 2 or so seconds ahead of you. Any chance he was just watching you race yourself? I doubt you would pull on that car unless he is running like garbage

are you sure? I dont know mopar to save my life..... but i thought those cars were well into the 14s typically.

 

My dad had a relatively built '69 Charger R/T with a 440 and a manual valve body/reverse shift pattern 727. The fastest time slip he had for it was in the 13s. A lot of muscle cars weren't as fast as some would think. There were definitely some fast ones, but most were in the 14-15 second quarter mile range. The 68-70 Road Runner with the 426 Hemi would do the quarter in the mid to high 13s. That's the top of the range for that car. If it were a post-72 Road Runner, you would definitely beat him (they did the quarter in the 16 second range at the fastest).

 

They put a 400 in the early 70s roadrunner a friend of mine had one.It had awhite stripe that reminded me of the Starky and Hutch torino only more subdued. If I was to guess I would say a 15 sec quarter would have given it the benefit of the doubt. The 400 was the B engine family same as the 383 I think it had the same stroke but a larger bore. I had the lean burn version in a Cordoba it was typical for the smog era....

 

How do you know it had a 400 (I think), and not a 318, 340, 360...?

 

i thought it was a 400 but wasnt sure the guy had emblems and i just looked at his car for a couple seconds an thought it said 400 from what i remembered

 

The 3.8 is not a bad engine and with 200 horses and 225 of torque she will run in the low to mid 15s all day long. When we are talking about older cars in the 70s there is a lot to consider. First the condition may not be in the best of shape. 30 years of wear and tear will be hard on even the best of engines. Plus there could be a ton of different engines in that car with a wide difference in performance from 200 horses on up to the mid 300s.You also never know what is done under the hood. A lot of younger guys with throw a huge aftermarket carb on a stock 350 with out dialing it in at all for example and wonder why the thing bogs down like crazy when they first get onto it.

Long story short i am going to have to say good kill man ....

 

I saw a race that was with a 95-96ish Camaro Z28 and a 69 Camaro SS. Both were stock to the bone and the 4th gen would beat the SS every time. The point of the race was to show the performance difference between the cars of then compared to today.

 

spect you gotto remember man that he probly wasnt racing the 400 cube runner probly the 383 or smaller mopar V8 i personally have taken out my buddy's 68 cuda with a v8 though if i remember its not quite the 383 somthing smaller ... ill have to ask him. but either way i put distance on him so i could 383 being a close race. as for the 400 who knows maybe theres a rusty paperweight under that hood?
