An Audi S4 is turbocharged. Although heavy as crap, they are quite fast. All wheel drive too.

 

Wait, which motor was in the S4? I'm more familiar with VW than Audi but they use the exact same engines. I thought the S4 had the 4 cylinder turbo engine, but it looks like you can either get the VR6 or teh W8 in them... which would explain why you lost, LOL!

 

I had a 2004 S4 (4.2 liter 340 HP -- earlier models had the 2.7 twin turbo but the 2004 has the five-valve V8) for a while (traded it on the Porsche). It was only mid-to-high 13s stock -- took it the track several times. There is an upgrade from the stock 340 to 414 HP but its seriously expensive and incredibily rare. I'm surprised he beat you - one thing thought, the Audis don't have an overdrive transmission (they will top out in top gear at the red line), so they have very good, closegearing in the 40-110 range. Still, I think you should have had him, I'm a bit surprised.

The Audi S4, 6 cyl twin turbo cars are rated at 260 HP, the V8s are rated at 340 HP, and the RS4 V8 is rated at 420 HP. Don't mess with them from a dead start, that full time 4 wheel drive can really jump out while you are spinning your wheels

 

i wasnt aware that the s4 was TT stock. i know a few guys who have built them up, but i thought the turbo's were aftermarket.

 

It's the V8s you have to watch for. There is nothing saying 4.2 liter on the outside and very little to indicate they are anything by a nice family sedan, but whether 340 or 420 Hp they have 5 valves and variable valve timing, gobs of low end grunt, and great gearing.

I do know from experience that my S4 (340 HP) would just kill a 350 HP GTO -- absolutely slaughter it off and line and from any speed you chose to start from. But I would still expect a lighter SS to at least hang with it if not take it at speed
