So last night I was heading from the movies to my girlfriends house. I see a 05Mustang GT coming up behind me and I am like oh yeah someone to screw with. He gets beside and sortof takes off so I have to catch him and when I do I rev at him and he shakes his head yes. So we are doing 65 and we both downshift to 3rd and by my suprise he hangs door to door with until like 115 then I edge 1/2 car on him and then we both slow down at 120. I end up stopping and talking to him and he says his car is stock. My 02 SSis not I have an air lid longtube headers and exhaust. Was he lying to me about his car being stock. I am not sure if that is true and am wanting all of your opinions.
P.S. I really didn't think he would do as well as he did.

 

Well.. even if he was stock, it took them 3 years and probably way less miles to even hang with you..

 

they are respectable cars.. im not sure he was completely stock.. maybe like a throttle body spacer or something like that but not to much mods on his end. (thats coming from my experience with an 05 GT, he kills me with just little work done to the intake side, so im guessing with headers and exhaust we should def be even)

 

i would say nice win. 3 yrs newer and probably 3 times more expensive =)

 

Are they really that fast? They are only rated at 300hp right? My 94 Camaro was rated at 275hp so with a few mods I could get it up to 300 which comes out to about 250-260 at the wheels. Does anyone know what the new GT runs in the 1/4?

 

I saw on Edmunds that the 1/4 mile time was 13.5 and I forgot what the top speed was. My stock 1/4 mile is mid 13's so for me to beat him by half a car is about right I guess. If it had been an Auto instead of a manual I would have crushed it....OH WELL I still won though.

 

these cars are capable of sub 2 sec 60's on street tires out of the box. that is why they do so good in the 1/4. they dyno roughly 40rwhp lower than an ls1. from a 60 punch with LTs you should have raped him. Maybe you are running lean with the headers, or maybe he lied, but you should have won bigtime.
