Best thing to do is remember who's home it is. I know you grew up there, but it's your dad's and his new wife's now. You only have to be civil for a couple years and then you can go out on your own. Don't make your dad miserable for the next couple years by causing grief in the home, and don't force him to take a side.
The engine block table is actually a very cool idea to save for your own place some day.
