Thinking about NOS
Thanks for this article
https://camaroforums.com/forum/nitrous-super-chargers-turbos-24/nitrous-how-works-pro-con-11791/
Im wonder how safe a 100 shot on a new GM crate 350 would be.
78 Camaro, 95 or new style 400HP Crate motor, Airgap Intake, Holly 750.
Will have 4:11 and a Lunati 60104, before the NOS.
I dont want to go crazy with the NOS. Someday, if I like running NOS I will build an engine to handle it. For now I want to try it and see what I think.
But I don't want to kill the engine. It seems that a 125 shot would be safe according to the above article.
I have been looking at this kit.
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/NOS-05101NOS/
I have no idea what I am getting in to.
Any idea how much time I will shave off the 1/4 Mile?
Is Nitrous safe for the engine when done correctly?
Is that kit ok, or is it missing stuff?
Thanks for reading.

100 shot of nitrous will be just fine if you do the necessary things to keep it safe. I would not recommend spraying more than that on the crate 350 motor. You will want a bottle heater and you need to retard the timing 4 degrees when you spray if you are using pump gas. I always recommend to run good fuel though.. At least a gallon or two of 100 unleaded helps keep things safe.. On my other car I spray a 200 shot and it does just fine for me but I am also a big block. I run the MSD timing dial on my car which is awesome, when I am ready to spray I just turn the **** back 6 degrees then when I am done racing I turn it back. Saves me a lot of time. You will drop a second in the 1/4 with a 100 shot if you do it right. Please call it nitrous, NOS is just a company that sells it. I passed a car once with a NOS bumper sticker with a NX license plate frame.. Wish I could give him a nice face palm. If you have any questions about nitrous let me know, I would be glad to help.. I have been spraying for years and I laerned the do's and dont's with it..

As said above that should be just fine. Check your plugs and the gap and start with a smaller shot and work your way up on the dyno just to be sure.

I run a 100 shot on my 2010 SS and i havent had any problems. just make sure youre tuned right and it is basically bulletproof. STAY AWAY FROM N.O.S!!!!! there bottles are ok but the rest of there stuff is cheap in my opinion. check out nitrous daves or n.x

Your also on a LS motor. We can get away with a tune and a 150 shot all day. Hell a stock LS1 can take a 200 shot under the right conditions on a stock bottom end. I would agree that a stock crate motor can probably take a little more but you starting to push its limits. Good tuning is key to both.

Hell 100-150 isn't going to hurt anything in that motor; barely need to make adjustments. Do your timing, run a lil colder plug (non-protruded) and run decent fuel and you'll be fine. Are the pistons forged or hyper's? About the only thing I would change would be the intake if its not a single plane. Some do it with dual plane intakes, but I wouldn't risk it, plus an open plenum gives you more options for different plate systems.

Since someone else brought this thread back to life....
I went with a NX wet system. Running 150 shot. AFR stays in the 10's when the nitrous
is spraying. Used a micro switch on carb to engage on full throttle.
Picked up 2 full seconds.
Best pass on old tranny is a 12.6 remember I'm in Colorado.
That is an 11.4 at sea level.
Some day I will get a forged 383 stroker and run a 250 shot.
I am very happy with the nitrous.

he's also at altitude, leaning it out up there can be dangerous compared to what you can do closer to sea level

I can read plugs.
I have an o2 Sensor cause it is easier, faster, and more accurate.
Dyno shop thought it was perfect. Yes it is rich, but it is safe.
I have leaned it out and the times go down not up.
The track is at 10k feet. It is a lot more dangerous for me to push lean issues.
When it isn't on the nitrous it runs in the 12's idles at 13.
I only have 4 different jet with the nitrous express kit.
The smaller jet leans it out to much.
