Default Suggestions for a supercharger

I am trying to find more information on possibly getting a supercharger for my car. It is brand new so I may wait a little bit before getting it done but I am definitely looking (maybe the right opportunity rolls along).

I own a 45th Anniversary Camaro the 2LT and I am very interested in a supercharger. I actually called the dealer I got it from for the heck of it, but what they said is that I cant bring my own kit and that they would have to order it themselves. What came out from that conversation was that the only kit they can get was by Whipple and that because of my engine (3.6 L) it was not recommended because of an 11 to 1 ratio ( I dont know if that is the case with all brands of supercharger or maybe just the Whipple, I did not ask). They said they could still do it but it would be 10 K out the door. I am also aware of it voiding warranty.

So maybe the community here can help my quest better. Is it really that bad as they say or is there one that would work. Is there a recommended brand for my particular vehicle?

And if maybe anyone who happens to live in California know of a place that could do it I am definitely interested.

Thanks in advance!

Besides dealing with finding and installing a "kompressor", because of the high compression ratio there is a limit of how much blower pressure the engine can handle and still run on pump gas, and stay in one piece. Six PSI would be reasonable, but that will only increase power about 25%, which is not much of a return for $10K. Rumors are the GM is working on turbo version of the V6, which would have all the details ironed out and also be streetable and reliable, and would make a good swap. I checked the Whipple web site and they only show kits for the V8 engine.

Yea, the problem with going through the dealer is that I am unable to buy my own kit and have them install it. I have a feeling I'd be able to find a kit of my own that would perform better than what the dealership is offering.

Essentially, I am looking for better alternatives. 10 K is very steep, and would only be considered if the "payout" is absolutely superb.

Welcome to the forums, Jonathan. Where in CA are you?

Here's the deal about FI (and cars in general): Cheap, reliable, fast. Pick two.

You aren't gonna find anything for under $3000. However, here's an idea for you that is CARB legal (I'm pretty sure. Double check) and under $10,000 for sure:

Squires Turbo Systems - 2010-2011 V6 Camaro

Your best bet is full exhaust and a tune if you want more power. Or the giggle juice if that's your thing.

And come visit us in the lounge! Link in my sig. Not now since I'm the only one there, but tomorrow!!

Your friendly forum Mustang Hunter,
