Pontiac also had a Trans Am pace car that was a V6 turbo. If I'm not mistaken it is the quickest Trans Am built, if not one of the quickest.

There were quick for their day stock, but stock for stock are not a match for the LS1 cars. Now throw a few mods at that turbo car and look out.

Turbos are great if done properly and can make great power, but unless the engine is designed or upgraded properly it won' take the stress for long. The turbo Grand National was one of my all time favorites, and also pretty good was the turbo Grand Prix with a little 3.1 engine. It could really smoke the front tires with a little tweaking.

But as an aside which has very little to do with cars; at my worksite we took delivery of 3 emergency power generators. Each engine rated at 3000 HP continuous at 1800 RPM. V16 Caterpillars with 4 turbochargers each. Turbos are pushing 40 PSI and making one of the sweetest sounds. Of course the ground shakes pretty good and you can't hear yourself speak when they are pulling full load.

I owned an 84 camaro with the iron duke 4cyl, as a 16 year old. You couldn't kill the motor but the 5 speed manual cost me a lot to have rebuilt.

Nothing replaces displacement. If you apply technology to these big blcok motors, you get a hell of a power out put.
