You could take a used STS kit and make it work. Might take a few small changes but it would be a little less pain in the *** then starting from nothing. Plus used STS kits are cheap and come with most of what you will need.

You can always get the universal components from STS (turbo, piping, clamps, etc) & fabricate it up.. You will have to do a little homework to make sure all of your piping is the ideal diameter, etc & that you have good mounting points & clearances..

stay away from rear mount turbos.. i seen them all the time on my dyno and the numbers they put down is pathetic.. not worth the money. save the heartache and just do a proper front mount setup.

yes, Rear side Turbo charges may not worthy to give full services as they can not compensate the heat properly than the front mounted.

The above is just not true. There are tons of guys out there running good numbers with rear mounted set ups. If heat becomes a issue you can alwase run Meth, Alky or hey add a good Front mount intercooler to keep the temps down.

No a single STS turbo kit is probaly not going to produce the same power as a Twin APS kit but your also talking about twice the price and a much harder install.

For a budget FI set up on a LS1 car you can make 450 plus horses on a STS kit for about 4 grand brand new. The APS kit may make a little over 500 but its going to cost about 7 grand and the installation is about three times the work.

Plus once you start going past the 450 mark you might as well say good by to your A4 and 10 bolt and be ready to drop some big money on your drive line somthing that not every F-body guy wants to do.

Also there are 700,800 and 900 Horse power guys out there running rear mount set ups so they can make the power. They are not worth less and on a budget FI build they have there place.

I called STS and i'm putting a ls1 in my third gen 1990 RS btw lol good choice man

but i asked if the piping would be close to a 4th gen they said it would but it's just cheaper to go with a universal kit and it's more custom and would fit better. So don't just not do a rear mount cuz there's not a bolt on kit. Go ahead and do it man! much better than a front mount. turbo is 500 degress cooler than it would be in the front
