Default ELECTRIC SUPERCHARGER? whats the deal

ive been looking at electric superchargers, and all the ads make them look like the greatest deal ever. i know better than to justgo off of what the adds say, otherwise i'd be using a turbonator! has anyone ever used an electric supercharger or seen unbiased reviews of them? how well do they really work?

Guys, this question comes up a lot. Won't go over it again. search my old postings. Electric SCrs are good in concept but not on cars with 12-volt electric systems -- can't blow enough air. In the future, when cars have 48 volt or higher electric systems, they may be viable. Don't waste your money.

actually... I know this may sound well... crazy but on my carbed 400 sbc z28 I experimented with hooking up an electric cooling fan on top of my air filter, and you could definately tell the difference.

It probably was either blowing more cold air into it or adding to turbulence the engine liked -- the power didn't come from pressure (boost). Still, if it works, use it. It would be interesting to see back to back dyno runs and see where (what RPM) the power addition comes in.

Yeah i think it was more due to the fact it was getting colder air and like you said turbulence. Not realy a "supercharger" in any form, but it did make a difference. I used a 14" round filter with the K&N styled cotton top and wired the a toggle switch. it definately got up to rpm range faster much like a cold air intake. We unfortunately do not have any place around with a dyno.

I asked the same question on a differnent Camaro forum and I got a little crap for it. Haha! I thought it was funny and I even got it from a guy who threads have nothing to do with cars!! Still thought it was funny anyway.

There is onlyfew that are worth the time and they runfrom 300-1100 bucks. For that you can buy a set of heads and make twice the power reliably. Most of the ebay and even the 600 dollar ones you see in magazines are not worth the money. If It sounds too good to be true it probably is.
However used in some ways such as to bring cold air into the intake is not a bad way to go. But that’s more of a fan not a turbo/sc. I would stay away but thats just me.If you do your research and do it Wright who knows.some u cars, any cars, and evenmini stocks used to use leaf blowers in the same way .

They work if you run them on 240 Volt AC. The problem is that you need a hell of a long extension cord to keep them plugged in. LOL
