blow off valve help
Hello all
I’m new the forums but I had a few questions.
I have a 96 Z28 6 speed I put in a vortech supercharger a few years back. I have a little problem
I got a blow off valve, I wanted to have it to the atmosphere, I have a mass flow sensor and it makes my car run rich. I wouldn’t mind it, when I’m shifting but the valve opens with the vacuum line, when the car idles and I got black smoke coming out. So is there any type of blow off valve that does not have to have a vacuum line connected to it so the valve stays closed?
Thanks much any advice would be great.

thank you for your response.
the vacuum line holds the valve open. once i give it a little gas the valve closes. the line i am using has about 11 psi of vacuum and i guess its strong enough to pull the valve open, at a idle.

vacuum is not read in PSI.
they take a pressure/vacuum signal source. it senses the change in pressure/vacuum which opens a valve that diverts the air out through the chamber
The blow off valve is not open all the time just a brief second when the pressure change happens.

also your bov should be before your MAF so any air that would be lost would even mater since the maf isnt reading it too make the ECU run rich. It sounds like you may have a bad MAF or 02.
Both can cause you to run crazy rich.

the vortech supercharger kit had me put the MAF before the supercharger right after the cone filter. so the air that is being let out is making my car run rich. i had a buddy look at it he said it was doing what bypass valve do. i have also tighten the spring and it still opens, would i be able to run it with no vacuum line?
????
I would relocate the MAF to where it should be (right before the TB) Other wise your not reading the correct air flow. I would strongly recommend a tune as well.

hey guys, i have a supercharged aussie car it runs no vac line!!!!
Position it closet to the fuel source throttle boddy, or card. It just releases unwanted boost when the throttle closses. So hence that is the best position.
Hope this helps, cheers ben.
