Default **350z guy looking for advice on STS rear mount turbo**

i just got one of the first sts rear mount turbo kits for the 350z installed. I"m wondering what you guys' experiences have been with tthings like test pipes vs cats and heat wrapping the exhaust as well as results with headers. any input would be appreciated.

and one thing you might want to try, is DONT come on a CAMARO forum looking for 350Z help. Im sure there is a 350z forum for that. Another thing, dont make your username camarokiller. Thats kinda stupid since your on a camaro forum.
Think. then post.

The ones I have seen have rather extreme turbo lag, and abit of after-liftup run on, and while they make lots of power up top they don't add much low end torque. That type of turbo makes a lot of sense in a marine application butI don't see it as that good in a car -- I think people do it just because it is different.I expect it will be a problem for you to get it turned and right, andalso that you will have the chronic head gasket problems I've seen on other blown 350s. If you intend to make anything other than a few more HP have the bottom end built and get the heads O-ringed.

Its actually got a very nice stable running conservative tune on it and I think the engine should be fine being that its only pushing 6.5psi. But I know some people have heat wrapped the entire exhaust to make the turbo spool faster and I'm just rying to find those people.

also just to add this kit is still being tested on just a few 350's so I don't really have anyone that knows anything about it on the 350z forum so I thought I would come over here and find some people civil enough to help out with some advice

Yeah, the heat wrap is supposed to help but from what I've seen it doesn't. There is a type of aluminimzed insulation about 1/4 inch thick that I've seen folks wrap around the whole assembled. Some sort of metallic tape, too. Not sure where they got it.
I personally think the whole rear-mount turbo thing is just folks looking to do something different, not better. As I've said, it works well on offshore power boats and stationary applications where transient throttle response is not the issue. Putting the turbos as close and as hot as possible seems to work best in an automobile. I was looking at the Bentley Continental GT recently (twin turbo 6-liter 12 cylinder). The factory puts those turbos up close and personal to the engine. The result is a 5200 lb car that can edge a C6 in the quarter mile, and the one I drove had no turbo lag, even at 1800 RPM (just 600 lbs of torque instantly).
