hay thatcamarokid welcome to the forum. should post questions in proper section. lol, this would probly fit in the third generation general section. anyways if its as he says its worth more than asking price, i would assume the motor and trans are no good. look it over real close for rust. easy to hide. not fun putting together a car that someone else took apart. parts, nuts, bolts and scews are always missing. hay you got three years.

If the guy was to part out the car, as he mentioned he might, he can make back well over $2k and probably closer to $3k since the body is rust free.
I don't get why he would sell it whole for $500, unless he just plain sucks at math. Given that, $500 is a deal, and $450 is even better.

Well no, you won't be anywhere near that value when restored, that car isn't anything desirable. As an example, there's an all original 1988 IROC in my area, no rust southern car. Price is $3700 asking, which means getting it for close to or at $3k. I, like many others, would much rather buy an unmolested original IROC, than a plain-jane model that's been "restored". Which is why I say, these cars are worth more in parts. Don't go into this deal thinking you're going to make a bundle when you sell it. If you can do the resto work yourself, you'll likely be doing good to break even.
