RE: Winter Blues & Bored
I see you remembers the pass word. Yep I did that and it froze up and popped a rear freeze plug. Now I have to take it in and hav it put in. It had to be one on the back of the block and not one of the easy to get side ones. At least I now know that the prestone 50/50 is no good up here.

Mat: I filled the Rad and Block with a 80/20 mix of that new Environmentally Friendly PINK Anti-Freeze / Water. So far I see no PINK Spots under the Car. I brought the Battery in today to warm it up and it accepted a charge to 1.5 volts - so for so good. I do not envy you replacing a rear Frost Plug as the Starter, Tranny and FlyWheel will have to come off which will entail removing the cross member and probably the Exhaust. You’re fortunate that the Plug blew out instead of cracking the Block. Might be a good time to do a tare down inspection; do a hone, new rings and possibly add a few more goodies to the Engine )

Mat: you want to hear a cry story? I tore my engine down about 3 times before I settled for the final configuration. Once when swapping out the 750 Dp / Performer for a 830 Annular, 4 corner / an RPM Air Gap, I must have placed the distributor in at 180 because it did not fire. When turning the engine over by hand I felt a rub which seemed very suspicious. So I tore the Engine down again and discovered a 1/8 square inch piece of a lock washer end that had broke off an intake bolt and found its way into #7 Cylinder. It dimpled the Quench slightly but not serious enough to affect the head but I had to replace the TRW Forged Piston. Fortunately it did not mark the Manley valve or seat. Since I had the engine torn down I replaced the Cast Crank with an Eagle Forging and put on a BHJ SFI 7" Harmonic in front of a Donovan Cam Gear and had the rotating assembly balanced. I replaced the Comp Cam XM274 Hydraulic Flat tappet Marine Cam with a CB 288A-R10 Mechanical Roller and Crower Hippo Oiler Lifters then topped it off with a Jomar. I also went to main studs and installed a Diamond Stripper wrapped in a modified 7 qt Morrosso Sidekick. The engine only has 120 miles on it and has already been to hell and back. I'm waiting for the warm weather to break it in properly without destroying it myself. I doubt if I would have upgraded to the extent I did if it would not have been for that stupid broken lock washer. I have learned NEVER to use lock washers on Intake manifold bolts ever again and washed my tears away with a upgrade on an engine that only ran long enough to break in an hydraulic cam - ))
