Talking Newbie z28 Owner

Proud new owner of a 97 z28, wanting to add some horse power! I have little clue when it comes to Camaros and where to start so any advise would be wonderful. It's relatively stock, has new cold air intake, shift kit, and exhaust system. The engine was just over hauled (ran with no oil for a period of time before I got it) and has a new oil pump as well as a new fuel intake manifold and new plugs and wires. I know this is the "newbie" thread, but this was largely why I joined the site. Thanks in advance!!

Welcome, looks like you already have many of the initial add ons covered. Have you had the vehicle on the dyno yet? If not, you might hit the dyno and then see if a chip and tune are in order.

Thank you for the welcome! It does have some sort of chip in it, but it was there when I bought the car so I'm not sure what it is exactly.

Headers if it doesn't have them already. That would do it for bolt on's. Why kind of goal are you shooting for as far as HP/TQ goes and what is your budget? That determines what you'll want to do, but you have to be realistic with what you're going to be using the car for.

400 hp is my goal, but I'm not looking to do it over night. Budget is fairly minimal, couple hundred at most for now. I would like to do a little at a time solely for budget reasons. Blue book value is only around $7,000 and modifications will add value, but I still don't want to drop 3 grand in it at one time.

400 at crank, or at the wheels? Either or requires tearing into the engine for cam/head/intake upgrades. More power also means you need to beef up the trans, rear end, and suspension to handle said extra power.

Modifications do not always add value. It really depends on the buyer. Some people will pay more for a car that is bone stock and has nothing aftermarket than if it's got every racing piece in the Summit Book. Especially when you consider the one's that are modified tend to be the ones that get abused.
