Default Newbie from Alaska

Hello everybody!

I will introduce myself briefly for those who may be interested, all others can go bother the other newbs.

Yes I live in Alaska, moved here 15 years ago, I work as a heavy equipment mechanic that pays well year round, I also used to be a GM line mechanic and I also built show streetrods at another private shop just to name a few things, I am 50, I currently drive a 2002 Silverado HD3500 dually with the 8.1 Vortec, its been customixed pretty well with an Escalade instrument cluster all front lights HID, all running lights LED plus a lot of other little tweaks.

My future car or truck purchase is somewhat dictated by where I live, I wanted a Corvette but I can only drive it a few months a year and only on a few roads and even our best hiways have numerous frost heaves and pavement breaks that will eventually damage the undercarriage, my obvious choice wuold of course be a Hummer but though it has its merits I am not overly impressed and also everybody else has one around here.

I talked to our local Chevie salesperson and he now has my name on the reservation list for the new Camaro, it has a lot more appeal to me overall and its half the cost of either the Corvette or a Hummer. I am very excited about this upcoming new version of the Camaro and I hope to be one of the first in Alaska to own one!

Thanks, I won't yet make too much conjecture about what engines will be available or about how much is being ruled by the CPU and how it affects the purists who want to tinker with it, I cannot imagine another chasis that has had more mods, body art and tweaks than the Camaro. First off I am seeing a lot of friction of the DOD and hopefully there will be a mode switch in car for that function, I do hope it has or can have the same handling package as the Vette, basically its a musclecar and its coming into a field where gas prices are going up again, I fear that after an intial run of a hi-power engine selection it will be restricted back. My 2002 Silverado had the 8.1 (496CID) that was horrible on gas mileage though it does provide more than enough torque and HP than I need, its not available any more on the new models, instead its the 6.0 DOD or the Duramax, I think there will be a LOT of discussion about the GM DOD engines in the near future. Personally nothing beats cubic inches so I would go big block if I had a choice.

I can't wait to see what CAN be done by adjusting the engine parameters electronically.
