For road racing.
If you want to go fast on a budget the 4th gen Ls1\6 speed (1998-2002) car is a nice car if you don't mind the looks.
Of course the 6th SS will out preform most of the Camaros out there. The 2018 6th Gen ZL1 1LE came in 15th at Nurburgring for production cars. It smashing many "super car" that cost 4 to 5 times as much. Any Camaro with the LE1 designation will be road course designed.

if your on a budget the ls1 in 98-02 is the best bet ,as the new gens cost way to much ,if you want a race ready car though thats the way to go with 6 th gen ,welcome ,though alot of guys are chooseing the sbc in near any gen car can be made to be road racer even the 69 i have seen on road races,though they generaly have the newer engine in them
