Recently purchased a '99 Camaro for my girlfriend. It has a 3.8L, AT with T-tops and 180K miles. Seems to run well so far, but there are a few typical glitches. Thank goodness for the various forums such as this where I can learn how to fix those glitches! Already dealt with oil & filter, air filter, EGR valve, PCV valve, hatch release button and auxiliary spring, LR marker light, fog lights, spare set of keys and 2 fobs. Next is the RH headlight bracket. Junkyard visit scheduled this weekend. Then on to the fuel gauge sender fix/replacement. (Yes, I plan to use the trap door method.)

Jerry

Here's a pic.

Welcome, Jerry, to the Club.
Nice ride. Suggestion is you might check the reference forum and download a service manual for future use.

Thumbs up

Congrats, looks like a pretty straight li'l o'l Camaro.
Oh and hi neighbor, I'm a rare Orygun native living in exile just across the big river to your north about 50 miles.

Everett -
I did find that reference sub-forum and downloaded a few documents. Great information in them. I assume most of the wiring of the 99 Firebird is very similar to the 99 Camero (base). I've already used some of the docs to understand about the BCM re-solder fix, EGR trouble-shooting and to get part numbers for a couple little items. It's to bad GM no longer supplies the little latch for the center console cover. The local junkyard had about 8 fbodies, but none had the RH headlight bracket or that latch.

My next dilemma is whether the fuel gauge sender unit or the passenger window motor is higher priority. I live in Oregon, so... rain.

I'm not too sure about how straight it is. I found a previous dealer's online ad for it from about 6 months before I purchased it. The hood was completely different (scoop). I suspect a minor front right collision, but it seems to be mostly cosmetic and (mostly) repaired. I'm kind of bummed that the ground effects pieces have been pulled off.

This is my first American (although Canadian-made) car in quite a while. Going backwards:
2005 Mercedes SLK350 (my current DD)
2000 BMW Z3 2.5i
2001 Toyota MR2 Spyder
2001 VM Beatle 1.8T
1988 Subaru XT-6
1985 Fiat X/1-9 Bertone
1980-something Fiat LeCar
!980-something Monza
1982 Honda GL-1100 Goldwing Interstate
1977 Yamaha XS-400
1967 Austin Healey Sprite
1971 Ford Pinto (yes, really!)

The hood with a scoop would not have been stock, those only came on SS cars. It may not have had any ground effects taken off, those only came on RS cars.
I can't say I know much about foreign cars, I've never owned any except an old '63 Baja bug many years ago as a toy.
I owned quite a few Japanese motorcycles in my younger days but been riding only American for decades so nothing modern in a foreign make there either. Even my last dirt bike was American albeit with a German made Rotax engine,it was an '88 ATK 406.
They probably sold the hood,Z28 guys always want those and the SS Spoilers
that only the SLP SS cars came with.
This is my '01 SS.
