New from NC
Hello,
Actually going to pick up my new purchase tomorrow in another state and drive her home. Had her professionally checked, but still want to be prepared. Will be going about 500 miles. A 70 Camaro RS SS 396 4 spd a/c car. Glad I found this place. Also looking for oil weight recommendations and brands. Thanks, Bob

yes I used Castrol gtx for years but what I am hearing for flat tappet cams an older engines is they don't the oils of today have enough zinc in them ,my 406 was built to a better standard but still with the flat tappet cam ,so I recommend using an oil with high zinc + additive ,some say rotella did at one time ,my engine builder told me to use the zddp atleast ,through out the life of the engine as even the vavoline vr1 does not have enough in it ,an someone else said the one ounce bottle couse most other additives have to much filler ,today new engines don't need though they say it ok to use in them after breakin ,my only concern is the 406 as it is oldshcool
What are the major difrences to look for on a SS/RS model (vs SS or RS)?
I will be looking at one claimed to be true SS/RS and need to know what to look for.
VIN dosent speicfy, but does the plate up side the break booster refrences this?
what size engine came with it back then?
Other specifics I should look for ?

the SS RS would have the extra trim package thats what RS is a sport package ,regular ss would not have that ,there were 2 with similar options 396 manual transmission,i came up with an rpo code of L 34 an L78, they had the split bumper too ,a regular ss came with 350ci ,that car would have ,ss rpo z27 rs rpo z22,hidden winshield wipers, there was the what some call the 70 an a half too, very rare car though, there both worth some money ,but the 70 an a half a lot more I think ,hopefully one of the other guys will chime in ,? is this car a cream puff ,or a project ,if the price is to good to be true then it could be a clone ,I was told to know your #s if your paying big money ,an if you don't care about #s an your getting a deal ,I found all the information I got on the net
