I'm new to this forum, but not to building cars. I've built a couple drivers and a 72 El Camino SS for show. Went a bit too far on the Elky and it's almost a trailer queen.
I just bought a 81 Z28. It's been sitting under a car cover for the past 20+ years. But the only rust is on the suspension, surface rust. The sheet metal is like new. I plan to make it a driver. I've discovered show cars are a PITA to keep that way and 'most' other people don't appreciate the effort you've put into the car.

Welcome aboard, sounds like you got yourself a very interesting and exciting project. I'm sure your '81 will be getting only better with all the work you planned on it. Good luck and keep us posted!
Thanks guys.
Everett mentioned the 'journey'. I've lost interest in my Elky and I think I've discovered why. While I was on the journey of build & restoration, I loved the car. Since it's finished, not so much. I just sold it to a lady who is in love w/ the car. She has a dream of driving it. I just hope she treats it w/ love & respect.
Now it's on to the journey of building & restoring the Z28. When this journey is concluded, we'll see what happens.

i started to lose interest in my 95 z28 .so in went outside the box with a carbed 406 ,then went with 98-02 ss look changed the cars looks ,an got about 100 more hp ,stock look was ok ,but after 10 years ,most guys i know would say why dont you get something else ,i am sure i will ,but for now the new look an the feel of the power has not worn off.an each time i replace a 20 year old part it feels so much better to drive, some new front shocks few other things should be good for a few more years,i know what you meen about the work we put into them ,if i go some place an throw up the hood people gather sometimes an ask what is that, a first gen engine in a 4th gen car ,the 81 z28 there nice cars an starting to increace in value too
