Welcome. Everything pretty much depends on what you want out of it. 97-02 v6 is the 3.8 which many prefer over the 3.4 in the 93-96 v6. If you're going v8 then 93-97 is lt1 and 98-02 is ls1, many prefer ls1 due to the opti issues in the lt1 but many don't like the "catfish" styling of 98-02

Like garner said, they all have something some like or don't like, I like the 93-97 bodies myself as far as Gen IV's. Gen I's are the best, good luck on that though, most Gen II's are well abused and Gen II's, well anyway. IV's are the easiest to get parts for and are, in my opinion, not difficult to work on. So there you go. Welcome to the "club" there are a lot of people on here that know there stuff. Enjoy!

Heck yes it is better and much faster! The V8 models in 1997 put out 285 horsepower while the V6 put out 200 horsepower I think. The V6 models also got drum brakes in the rear while the V8s got disks all the around. The V8 models will be more expensive though, so buy whatever suits your budget and do more research in order to get what you really want.
