New kid from Pa
Hey guys, I live in NEPA, I'm 19 and just bought a 1996 Camaro RS y87 about 4 months ago. Its a 3.8L with a 5spd, t-tops, leather, debadged and no body kits. I currently have an exhaust done, 8.5k hid fogs and some Grand Sport style fender stripes and red "Camaro" letter inserts. My future plans are an slp cai, and a "pcm for less" pcm and tune. I'm hoping in the next year to build up the motor to stage 1 N/A, sadly theres not a lot of ways to make the 3.8L run with the v8's. Here are some pics before the mods. I have to get some of how the car looks currently.

Thanks guys, I love the t-tops, and the whole car over all, it has it's issues but I'm restoring and modifying her as I go. She's got 73k on her now and I'm the second owner. I'm going down to Numidia in September, for the street legals bracket racing with some of my friends and some other local guys up here (Scranton area). I haven't driven this car at the track yet but I can't wait. I'm hoping to get my new pcm and the cai on before the next time and run 15.5 to 15.8 every pass.
the stock 3.8 with a 5 speed will run a low 15 with no problems, but depends on the gearing. i used to run a guy with a 98 3.8, 5 speed, exhaust, and clutch when my car was stock. we were dead even every time. and if you want to learn anything about the 3.8, check out the build threads by musicman or darlingreject
Oh my. A sixer can run with v8s all day long. Just costs a lot.
You want advice on building that 3.8 up, feel free to PM me. It's not as hard as you think.
Haha^
Thank you guys, and DarlingReject I will PM you later, I didn't mean that the 3.8L is at all bad or slow(this is my 2nd and I love them), I believe its one of the best v6's ever made, and the 3.8L 4th gens will run with most v8 mustangs of similar year, but the power output isn't that of an LS1. The clutch is tired and the tires are on they're last season, so with the work and me driving, and a not that well prep track I'm just hoping for 15.5 every pass(If I can do that I'll probably win 100 dollars haha) and I'm just trying to be realistic.

i outran a 96 mustang gt in a geo tracker on an eigth mile. simply knew the car, it didnt spin the tires much, very light and geared well. the early gt's did not make much power.
