Talking New here... starting the restoration on the 80 RS

Hello, My name is Chris. 19 years old, from Ohio.

Got a long story, with this great car. My Grandpa bought the car back in 1980 off the show room floor, had t-tops installed, he drove it on weekends, nice summer days, etc. He gave it to my dad at 16 with 18,000 miles on it, my dad then built the car to be what it is now by hand in my Grandma's garage... he used to go muscle car to muscle car back then having chevelles, el caminos, a couple camaros, etc. Always held on to this one.

Well... now is the bad part. My dad had a kid (me) & decided it would be a good thing to park the car for a little while. Basically it wasn't driven for 8 years, ran periodically though. It's just been sitting in a garage while my dad focused on other projects. Ever since I can remember I've loved this car, and now it's mine. I'm going to slowly but surely restore it to what it was, a drag strip king and a street-able car.

The car currently has a built Chevy 400 bored .30 over in it, 4:30? gears, a rear end that's supposedly pretty good for the strip, good trans, air shocks, sitting on cragars, the hood scoop that opens up when you get on the gas etc... not sure of all the details currently. I do know the best it ever ran was mid 11's.

It runs and drives just fine, needs brakes, tie rods, a u joint i'm suspecting, and other little things to be mechanically correct. I'd like to pull the motor and just check the internals for the hell of it though...guess it's like 6 bolts holding it in.

Cosmetically, it's not all that great. It has surface rust on the top of the fenders that could be sanded off in about 10 minutes. Needs the trim pieces along the windows - they're peeling off, the two grills have cracked over time, the paint is pealing off under the hood, paints just not all that great. Sad part is that the car was custom painted with two tones of blue paint, pin striped, and an air brushed trunk deck lid.

Over time, the garage hasn't been too nice to the car. Luckily, i'm great with autobody work. Thought i'd join here for some pointers, learn about the cars a little more, and to show what a 19 year old can do with his time. Really can't wait to get the car back on the road, & strip. I've watched it sit my whole life!

^had a house fire, camaro got used a storage shelf.

dirty, but runs great.

Welcome to C.F. Here's to hoping you get it back on the road sooner than later. We know how projects can go....try not to open a can o' worms!

Hoping it's not one of those 50 year long projects lol, doesn't need too much so shouldn't be too bad. I'm anticipating spring 2013, I have a good amount of free time.
