Default New Guy From Il

Hey guys, i just picked up my first pony car. I had a little mazdaspeed protege that i thought was the ****. Until i upgraded to my new baby.

She's a 97, base model, redm with a 3.8. Has a 5 speed hurst shifter, the special 30th anniversary embroidery, and a mean *** growl.

Lets be honest...Who gives a **** about gas mileage, or my cracked windshield? Its a damn camaro.

A few issues though (That should probably be posted elsewhere, just let me know)

1) My odometer doesnt seem to work. It worked at the dealership, showing 127,000. Now it will light up, just have no read out. Blown fuse?

2) My trunk release button also doesnt work. Another fuse? Maybe even the same one as the odo?

3) For some reason my tires seem to spin uncontrollably when i pop my clutch, resulting in huge white clouds of smoke. I think that might be user error?

Hey man, welcome to the forum. There's two places you'll find fuses on the car, one fuse box is on the drivers side right below the A-pillar on the side of the dash. Then there should be a relay/fuse box under the hood on the drivers side. I can't be for sure as I haven't looked at the v6's that close. But try to find a blown fuse and then we'll go from there. And for the tire spin, just keep it smart man, a little bleach will do wonders for that also, will help lub the tires. lol

Welcome. If you go to the generation sections they should be able to help with the issues.... well....at least the 2. As far as the 3rd problem with the smoke... it happens, welcome to the world of torque.

Thanks for the welcome guys. Im really looking forward to bouncing ideas off everyone here. The guy who owned it before me didn't take very good care of her. There are some serious wiring issues i discovered when i ripped out the old head unit, and more to be found when i take the door panels off i'm sure. Idiot must have valued sound over performance. Most of my interior has been torn apart and put back together at a pretty low quality of work.

Oh well, thats what makes it a project car right?

The unveiling of all her wiring issues makes me think it's not a fuse thats got my odo and trunk release broken, but probably his shotty craftsmanship on the wiring harness.
