new guy 94 z ?
hi. i own a 80z and a 84z and want a fourth gen as a dd. i went and looked at a nice 94z today. 93thou on it. owner has had it for nine years, he bought it with 83 thou on it. newer fuel pump ,tires, temp gauge and breaks. oil pressure was 18 20 psi at warm idle, held it at 1500 and got steady 40ish psi running at 220 or so temp. i have been reading posts on oil pressure and this sounds normal for these cars (seems low to me) i just want some personal reassurance that this is a normal idle oil pressure. i also have this poted in the drivetrain section. will get it for 4500 if i decide to buy.....thanks kevin

hello again.i bought the 94 z and started to get real worried about the temp getting high on the gauge, was getting to 240 and no fans. i took it to a local mechanic and he hooked up his snap on scan tool and we waited for the car to heat up. the gauge was in the red, the scan tool was reading 220 and the first fan came on. waited till the gauge was dam near pegged scan tool was reading 230+ and the second fan came on. how big of a piece of **** gaue is this. i was scared ****less of overheating my motor and the car is doing exactly what its supposed to. where on this motor can i install a mech gauge? i would like to be able to know what my temp is at a glance without having to decifer this p.o.s . thanks......kevin

This car uses a separate temp for the gage and for the ECM, and either one could have drifted.
You could try a new sensor for the temp gage, not the ECT sensor that signals the ECM.
Another possibility is that the gage could be indicating the proper temp, but the ECT sensor could be off and sending bad info to the ECM. The scan tools sees the same thing as what the ECM sees, and if the ECT reports an engine temp of 210 when it is actually 230, the ECM is going to see 210 and act accordingly, and not turn the fans on until the actual temp has risen to 240.
