Default New 79 Owner

Hello all, I just picked up a 79 Berlinetta not to long ago and it’s not far from being road ready, but I have a few questions.

I picked up the car with no carpet. The previous owner removed it to replace it and check for rust since the car sat outside for some time. He never replaced it but put all the seats back in, and this black glue / goo got on the tan leather. I was able to get most of it off with dish soap / magic eraser and some 70% isopropyl, and even a little degreaser but there are some stains left behind I cannot get out. Any recommendations?

Also I need to replace the sway bar bushings and the brackets that hold them up front. I measured the sway bar at 1in but no matter where I look the only ones I can find are to big and / or don’t have the brackets.

Goo gone Gel has work for me in some cases in the past. As for the sway bar bushing, can't help. My guess is most people upgrade their sway bar to a larger diameter. The 2nd gens are nose heavy. Once the volume of sales gets so low they stop making stuff. You could check the restoration parts places like Ricks or Classic industry.

My god, I bought a 79 berlinetta back in May 1979, just under 8 grand new . I was in my early twenties. That car got me more trim. Black on black. 305 manual.

I’m currently 23 and was able to get this for $2700 back in October. It sat outside for a while I was told but it is in pretty good condition for an old Michigan car. Other than holes in the bottom of the fenders, and some rust on the passenger door and an old faded repaint it’s in really good shape body-wise. I was told it’s a 383 stroker with roller rockers and upgraded rods etc but had nothing to confirm it so who really knows, but it for sure sounds like it Atleast has a small cam and runs really well.

also thanks for the suggestion Gorn, gonna try that this weekend when I get back to the car
