Default My 98 Camaro perpetual project thread

This thread is dedicated to my 98 Camaro, which incidentally I bought four years ago today.

Here's a picture of it from that day.

I didn't really do much to it in my own except maintenance like oil changes and such. But after hanging with some friends who do a lot of work themselves and joining this forum I've been trying to do all I can on my own.

The first project I'll be sharing is my recent overhaul of my suspension. I decided to get SLP Bilstein/Eibach shock/spring set and SS sways based on my own research and help from you guys. Also got a Lakewood adjustable panhard bar from a friend.

The first thing I did was replace the rear bump stops.(Yes, it is still attached there.)

Pictures of the old rear setup.

New sways after paint.

Old rear sway out.

New bar in

Painted the link brackets with POR-15.

As others have shown as well, the Bilsteins are a lot bigger than stock.

New rear springs and shocks in.

And holy cow, what a difference with just the rear done. Stiff as a board.
Now onto the front...

First thing out, sway bar.

Old front setup

Passenger assembly and upper arm out.

Driver's side out.

Everything was going smooth until I ran into this. Had to take to my mechanic to get apart, but they weren't able to save the upper mount.

I replaced the upper ball joints since it was already apart.

Painted the control arms with POR-15.

Driver's side assembly in. I also painted the inner panel first.

Driver's side with sway attached.

I don't want any rust next time.

Passenger side in with sway.

New and old panhard bar.

Installed

Hope you enjoyed, I know I did. Car handles amazing now, hardly any body roll at all, yet not harsh at all. The ride height is not much different than stock, just stiffer. Which is what I was looking for.

I would highly recommend this spring/shock combo to any who want a stiffer springs but don't want to drop the height much.

Hey thanks, I probably won't do anything major for a while since I just spent a little over a grand on all this suspension work and need to catch up a bit.

I do have some minor things planned soon, like painting the calipers and maybe some of the underside. I would like to get a new set of wheels from oewheels but I can't afford it just yet.

NICE! I did pretty much what you did to mine right after I got it, WOW, what a difference I'll second. Keep up the work, digging saving another F-body there!

Right on! I was going to say earlier it's one less F-Body with those cheap DeCarbon shocks.

Well I came home last night to hearing this hissing air out of my tire... Luckily I bought this tire new so the place I got it from should fix it for free.
