Default Really LONG and no need to bother unless your bored.

Yep that was me, of course that might have been to strong a term since you can't rape the willing, and the forums were willing LOL.

So here's the deal on this 'maro.

The guy I bought it from had it sitting on my mechanic's lot. He was asking $4500.00 for it. (Book at the time was $5500.00)

I looked at it and said "Damn, that would be cool for you to own April" (A friend that was with me at the time and her laughter is positively musical when you smoke the tires Which I did since I didn't have a nickle in the car yet LOL).

She said "Yeah right, like I don't have enough trouble getting in and out of my house already." (She lives at the end of a dirt road in Maine and drives a Toyota MR2 already)

So we took it for a ride just for giggles. (She giggles whenever you chirp the tires or take a nice high G corner)

So having a good time, but failing to get her to buy it we took it back and reparked it.

So I went in to see the mechanic about 2 weeks later and the 'maro was still there.

I told my mechanic to tell the guy that I have $3500.00 in an envelope with his name on it when he's ready to get real about selling it.

Another week goes by and I get a call on the cell, it's the mechanic who tells me that the owner is there and is willing to take the 35 hundred cash only today and today only.

I said, "I'll be there in an hour."

So I hops in my Aspen and scoots over to the bank and grab enough hundreds to buy the car, head home while calling my business partner to give me a lift over to the mechanics place. (I'm driving the damn thing out of there soon as I hand him the $ don'tcha know)
So now I'm the proud new owner of an 01 V6 Camaro Convertable.

Now the fun begins.

So far I've changed and fixed a few things.
  • I fixed the crack in the nose.
  • I replaced the radiator mount.
  • I had the frame checked to make sure it was straight. (it was)
  • I had the right front fender off and replaced the inner fender (looked like crumpled tin foil)
  • I replaced the fuel pump (It went bad while April was driving it. Wasn't she all kinds of pissed LOL)
  • New tires all the way round.
  • Had a front wheel alignment done (Properly in a shop that actually knows what they are doing, not like a Sears job)
  • Replaced the window switch bezel's on both doors. (Still looking for the door handle bezel's)
  • I detailed it (actually I detail all my cars about once a month so this is pretty much just routine maint for me.)
Still have some things to do to it, but by this time it's time to put the toy away for the winter. So I went and bought one of those car shelters to park it in for the winter. You know the ones I mean, the curved metal bars with the waterproof canvas stretched over them and the zippered door.

So we are now in to the tail end of winter (with me going out every couple of weeks to start it and wipe the dust off it. And putting a new redtop battery in it the one time it decided it didn't want to start.)

And it just keeps snowing and freezing and icing... Ya all see what's comming right?

So the dang shelter decides it's had enough, the posts bend...and bend....and bend...and then give way. Now the car is buried under a collapsed shelter and I have this really sick feeling in my stomach when I look out the window that morning and see this.

Several weeks later (yes it did take that long to gently remove the snow and ice.) I finally get the car out.

Now my insurance company is involved and they tell me to take it to a specific shop for the estimate and repairs. Mind now I carry extended liability, collision, and comp, as well as my homeowners policy with an additional million dollar umbrella policy. You'd think I was pretty much covered.

So the shop gives the insurance co. an estimate and I drop the car off. 5 days later I go to pick the car up.

The damage was as follows.
  • Left front fender dented and scratched.
  • Hood really scratched up.
  • Right front fender dented and scratched up.
  • Right rear quarter panel dented and scratched up.
  • Spoiler scratched up.
  • Left rear quarter panel dented and scratched up.
  • Drivers side door....Demolished.
So all of this is "fixed" and the parts painted. It's a very cloudy day when I pick the car up so I didn't notice just how bad the paint job was.

On closer inspection when the sun was out I see just how bad the paint really looks. It's mottled all the way around and you can see the spray marks where the guy that did the work looked like he just waved the spray gun at it and called it good. There are chips, cuts, bubbles, fish eyes, and the clear coating is peeling off it already on one of the quarters.

The insurance adjuster supervisor for the state of Maine says I have to take it back to the shop and allow them to cure the defects. Can you say BUZZZZZZZ Wrong answer, thank you for playing?

That shop may look at my car again if they choose, but they will NEVER touch it again. (If you think this post is long now, you should see what it would look like if I detailed all the screw ups they did while "fixing" the damage and I had repaired at a reputable shop at my own expense)

There is actually a lot more I could tell you about what they did, like leaving off approximately half of the fasteners and bolts when they put all the parts back on crooked etc. etc. but suffice it to say the quality of the work was really bad all around. The paint is only part of the story.

They actually had the nerve to tell me that it was bad paint, and that yes they can see the problems with it and that they will repaint the hood, and 2 front fenders..... What about the rest of it you ask? They think it's ok.

So apparently it was bad paint, but only the bottom half of the mix....

Anyway that's pretty much where I'm at right now, I'm fighting with the insurance company about getting it redone, and I'm taking it to someone I know will do the job correctly.

I'll post back when I get this situation resolved and let ya all know how this shakes out.

PS, sorry for the long winded post, but now the vehicle history (as far as I know it) is here and I'll never have to type it again, I can just refer to this post LOL.
