Just joined a few days ago. I'm one of the "old farts" and bought my first Camaro in December of 1968. It was back in the day when you "ordered" them. It came in and I picked it up in February of 1969. It was a Hugger Orange 396/375 4-sp car and soon, as was typical of the day, it got jacked up headers, gears, the venerable L60 Mickey Thompsons, and a host of other "goodies", and away we went! Gas was over 100 octane and 27 cents a gallon and there was still a lot of the "American Grafitti" aura in the rural midwest so drag racing was a big deal. She was a ground-pounder!! I had a couple of boxes full of trophies from the "real" dragstrip and still have a head full of memories from all the blacktop drag racing we did. We had the lines painted on the highway all measured out at the 1/8th and 1/4 mile marks and it was a great time to be alive! I met my high school sweetheart in this car and eventually married her when I was 23. We celebrated our 30th back in May. Here's a couple of pictures of the "beast" back in the day. . .

Here's a shot of her TODAY in more "correct" trim.

Just to have a "driver", I found a real nice 307 2-speed automatic car when I lived in Calfornia and bought it in 1983. It was the "right" color combination and solid as a rock so I turned it into the replica car. It's fun to buzz around in and my wife (she drives the thing to work some days! She's still a "hot rodder" even today!) or me can be seen in this thing pretty often. Here's the "driver" . . .

I've had a ton of old cars over the years including a 2nd generation Camaro (1973), mostly Chevy's. I just happened to be "surfing" around for another Camaro and stumbled onto this site. I'll try to chime in once in a while if I have something useful to "say" but all you hotshots remember to give the "old guy" a break every now and then! I'm better with stuff when I can open the hood and see the ground on either side of the motor and some of thie new high-tech stuff, cool as it is, is something I don't have the tools for or much knowledge about. Still, a Camaro is a freakin' Camaro and all you Camaro folks are part of a long and proud heritage. Carry it on with honor!
