welcome to the forum. the forth generation camaro is not like most other camaros. in order to make a standard small block chevy motor u will need to cut the car up. carb would be in the dash. with any v8 the mounts are different, front suspension is diffetent, wiring, computer, dash, transmission, driveline are different. as u an see even using a lt1 instead of a standard sbc u would still need to change these things. either keep the car u have and replace or rebuild the motor or sell it and buy one with a v8 if thats what u want. the reason noone wants to respond is that this question comes up about once a week and of the ones that are bent on doin it none have come back to show and or tell that they did it. responding??? it gets old after a while. there is a sticky on it and many many threads u can read. do a seach if u havnt already.

well im not sure exactly but one day my low oil light came on so i immedatly put oil in it but soon there after i couldnt hold oil pressure when i was stopped and it progressivly got worse to the point where, when i let off hte throttle it drops to zero. and it also smokes like burning oil very very bad to the point where when i pull up some whre a cloud of oil smoke is pouring out of my hood. but im not sure exactly what it is?
do you think that it would be more worth it to pull the motor and try to fix the problem and soup it up while its pulled? rather than trying to put a V8 in it?

and if so what should i do to it that wouldnt cost me a fortune?

no way to know what the cost will be until u know whats wrong. did u check the oil level? check for oil leaks? was it overheating? it would cost less to fix this motor or replace it. u can look around for a low milage 3.8 and replace. gorn on here is really good with 6s so hopfully he will come on and have a few things to say.

I agree with everyone else in that you first have to isolate the problem and then go from there. Whatever it is ...it sounds pricey. Putting a different motor in is pricey one way or another. You will still have to get the computer tuned right which really costs about as much as this motor you are putting in ...just the tuning! Then if something goes wrong there could be a whole list of things.... I personally would never buy any motor that is 100k milage. You just don't know what it's been through. And after all that trouble with the install and everything if something is wrong....where do you start? More time fustration and $$. Fix and/or sell it, if you fix it and keep it wait till you have some more cash ...because then you can do it right the FIRST time and not have to worry about it.

It may pain you now to get rid of it...but when you get a better cash flow just buy another 1 with decent milage and mod it out. Souping up a car should always be done right and not half assed... of course im old school that way. Just my 2 cents
