Hi there
I've been in search of a new/used car since the car I was using failed on meand I ended up drifting into a sidewalk at 40mph, I don't think I'm going back to getting a small city car with mediocre engine, handling, brakes..
So I've been looking into getting a Camaro, probably a 2001 model, used of course as I'm limited to about 10K. So I figured I could read up on all things concerning these awesome cars before buying a used one off someone.

for an 01 not too much. thats a good year, and they can go over 100k miles pretty easily and still run fine. alot of them burn a little oil naturally. so other than the normal stuff you would look at for any car, there isnt anything special to be aware of.
So if I can find a good price, say like, 8,000$ for a 2001 model with 50k-80k miles, it's a pretty good buy?
Also, would it be better to get the manual transmission, or auto?
Is there much of a difference in fuel consumption between the V6 and V8?
Thanks

manual transmissions hold up better than auto's, from what I've read. Plus they get better gas mileage. Personally, I will never buy an automatic car, they make me fall asleep, boring to drive.
speaking of mileage, we had a 5 speed aerostar that we ran to 400,000 miles. We only junked it becuase dad didn't want to fix the leaky windows. My sixer has 125,xxx miles, and is running strong. no oil burning, nothing. As long as you keep on maintenance, a car will run nearly forever. We changed the oil in the aerostar every 4,000 miles. If you know anything about aerostars, you will know that they were one of the worst vans ever made.
The mpg spread betwean six and eight is small, but enough to make the deciding factor for some people in their decision on a car purchase. Also, the v8's tend to be ran harder than the v6's, so betwean an 8,0000 v6 and an 8,000 v8, the six will most likely be a nicer car. most of it depends on your location and budget.
