Default Hey Guys

[hr]What's up everybody?

I'm Joe, I picked up a 1984 Z28 this last friday for $1000. It's original 302 has been swapped for a 350, the automatic transmission has been replaced or rebuilt, I can't tell yet. It's got new paint as of a year ago, and it's one hell of a ride. I'm a very mechanically inclined individual, I do all my own work on my *other* car, which has a name not to be uttered amongst camaro owners. *cough*

Problems:
So, I've got an alignment issue, the rear right shock sounds like it's loose or something else is way wrong back there, and my rear drums just plain don't function. The idle's been turned way up to almost 2000RPM, I need to figure out how to turn that down. Also once the engine's nice and warm, I can turn it off and it will continue to stutter and barely continue to run for a while until it finally dies, hitting the gas stops it, I've got no clue there. I'm gonna see about an alignment and some new brake shoes today. Then we'll go from there.

Any pointing in the right direction or words of wisdom are greatly appreciated. I'll hit up the search function as soon as I get back from work.Great to meet everyone.

-Joe

Do you have any pictures of the car? I think I joined just to look at pictures..
I have had older carbed engines do the same as what you were saying. Shut off and keep running, In my case it was due to extreme carbon build up. Once the carbon was glowing red hot it would run for quite awhile.

Check the timing for the 'continues to run' or 'deiseling', that might explain the high idle as well. If the timing doesn't bring the idle down you will need to adjust the carb. Can't help with the shock issue, I haven't experianced those yet. If the new shoes don't work, you will need to bleed the brakes, this should take two people or a really long stick and a creative imagination. If the bleeding and adjustment of the rear drums doesn't work you might have to completely drain the brake lines and put all new fluid in there, this will take 2 people - no sticks!
Welcome by the way. Get some pics up.

Well, you'll all be glad to know that my "other car" is a 95 V6, no challenge there. Once I get the engine in it taken care of, I'll put it back in daily driver status. Then I can start building horses on the camaro! Pics will be up soon, I'm gonna clean the engine bay a little before I take them, so hopefully this time tomorrow I'll have shiny new pics for you guys. As for the carb issues, I'm going to take the carb off and hose it down with carb & choke cleaner, I already did that a little and it's helped the problem a good deal. Apparently he left the carb from the 5.0 on when he put the 350 in...[:-]

Also, any best remedy you can recommend for removing said carbon buildup?

Welcome to the forum, and don't worry even if your "other car" was a V8 it's still no threat.even in the snake skin......As fot the other stuff, LS1T56 and cplthomas hit it on the nose. I've heard alot of good stuff about something called sea foam on here,do a search for it here and read some of the posts. It may help with the carbon issue. Will be lookin for the pic's

Yup, Sea foam is great. How bad is the carb? It may be time for a rebuild. Sea foam will help clean the internals as well.
