Default help

i have a 1998 5.7 liter ls1 camaro. When i bought it, it had 104,000 miles now it has 120,000, since i owned it i have maintained it well with very little problems. I have no idea how it was treated before i got it. it has a new power steering rack, new ac, rims and a new exhaust that went on yesterday actully and i was wondering if 120,000 miles is to much to start putting parts on like a intake, headers, cams, suspension and so on. what is the normal life for an ls1. i dont know much about cars and im learning as i go. any input would help thnaks.

sorry i dont know about the life of it but if you really love your car you could always rebuild the engine which if i had an ls1 i would since im stuck with a crappy3.1or you couldbuy a knew engine(which will obviously cost you more).

As long as you maintain the car the motors will run for quite a long time...I put 220,000 on a 350...ran great with no leaks. My brother has an old ford truck with a 351 and it has around 290,000...still running strong (as far as fords are considered)

To rebuild it at this point would be more as a preventative maintanance instead of a need. As long as it has been maintained well, it should not need much more that a tune up. If you are going o replace the cam I would recommend you learn more about the car and the inner workings of the internal cumbustion engine first. Go get a chiltons manual, it will help you with the tune up. Learning as you go is the best way to learn IMHO.

so the general idea is that the ls1 is a good motor and if kept in good shape should last
