Default Greetings from Colorado

Hello, I don't have a Camaro currently, but my youngest is interested in them and we'll probably pick up a 3rd Gen in the next couple of months and wanted some advice on what to look for as far as trouble spots since I've mainly dealt with older Mopars like my oldest son's 70 Duster.

I've found a few with V6's that are in our budget that look clean, but what should I look for as far as rust and corrosion? What are the typical rust patterns on them and what are the areas that are hardest to fix?

If we decide to swap in a V8 later after he has some experience driving, what are the best or easiest V8's to swap in while still maintaining the ability to pass emissions?

What rear ends were available in 3rd gens and which ones would hold up to either a turbo'ed V6 or mildly built V8?

Thanks and looking forward to learning a lot as we go along with this project!

Welcome....
There are a couple of us in here from Colorado. I'm in Longmont.
Stix is from Denver and he knows about 3rd Gen's, I'm a 2nd gen guy.

I know there are a lot of strange difference between the years. Someone here will tell
you the right year to get if your going to swap in a v8.

In Colorado you need to actually lay under the car and poke the floorboards with a screw driver. All cars are prone to rust up here. Then check the quarter panels. You don't want to have to replace a quarter panel. Cost way to much. I just bought a 99 eclipse and half the ones I looked at had bondo in the quarters.

Thanks gfrench! Nice 78 that you have! We're in Longmont as well but don't remember seeing your car around town.

Small World...

Camaro has only been on the road a few months. I don't use it as a daily driver. But I had it out for the Colorodon's Cruize. That picture is rather current. There are a few more stickers and the orange seat belts stand out.

No a/c, those t-tops heat that car up. I have to wear gloves to drive. It is to hot to touch the shifter. Hopefully, I can drive it more next month.

Up until a few weeks ago my daily driver was a 06 Colorado. Yellow, 4" lift 33"X12.5" with a big fox logo on the tailgate.
