Default Cam Chevy part #3972178 for 350 LT1

Hello all. Trying to determine value of this cam. Father-in-law passed away, and this item was something ha has had for more than 40 years. Never installed. Details on first photo. Any help would be appreciated.

It is hard to say, there are a bunch on ebay but in the last year only 2 have sold. They were nothing NOS still in the GM packaging. Both sold for $500. The rust on your's is going to hurt the value. I also think finding a buyer will be hard. That why it is hard to guess a value. This is the time to sell. People are planning their winter builds.

I am actually surprised the CAM brought that much. Cam Technolgies have come a long way since the early 90's. The 90's where much better designed then the 70's cam. I say that because in the 90's Lt1 GM sold the GM hot cam. I think it was the same one they used in the LT4. Now you can get cams the beat that cam through the whole RPM range. Back in the day you had to give up something to get something. You would trade Low RPM HP to High RPM HP or in the case of a truck towing cam that would be reversed.

I agree with Gorn, back in the day that was a nice street hotrod cam but these days there are hydraulic lifter cans that are better and require far less maintenance.
Solid lifters require frequent adjustment if you run the car hard much ,I will say they sound cool AF idling and will get the job done but they are pretty much obsolete.
A stock .30 /.30 GM solid lifter cam would be worth a little more to someone looking to do a period correct resto.
Clean the rust off for new pics and throw it on ebay with a $100 reserve and see what happens.
