Another New Guy
Whats Up Guys? I just joined, I currently do not own a Camaro. I have had a couple in the past and made the giant mistake of selling them. Im going to be trying to find a 68 to build and customize (Help!). So keep your eyes out for me please and I look forward to learning a thing or two from yall.

Ilive in College Station, about an hour and a half north of Houston. My biggest delima is trying to decide if I am going to go with a brand new body (which is expensive as hell!) or go with a used Camaro, strip it down and start from the bottom. Ive never had a car, muchless a 40 year old car that is immaculate with no imperfections. So that is what I am going to build and I dont know if I am really going to save any money trying to get a used body to look brand new. So thats my situation. If you have any advice, let me know what you think. Thanks -Heath
Hey Heath, welcome to the forum. About what to do get a new body or buy an existing car well I picked mine up in San Antonio and it's virtually rust free just some surface rust. You live in the area of the country where salt is almost not heard of. There's nothing 40 years old that hasn't got imperfections till after a restoration but you can find something close if you're patient.
Thanks Mike. When you bought yours from San Antonio, was it drive ready or were you just trying to buy a body for one? I dont want to go and spend $15K on a Drive Ready Camaro, when I am going to rip everything out and replace it with exactly what I want. I am wanting the interior to be completely custom. I am building the motor right now, and have a lot of miscellaneous parts that are new that I am planning on installing in the car. Thats where I am having trouble buying a used Camaro when I am not going to use any of the interior& probably not going to use the majority of everything under the hood. So thats why I am leaning towards buying a new steel body. I know everything doesnt have to be replaced, but a big reason I am doing this project is to learn as much as I can on the mechanic side. So I want to put it together piece by pieceand it turn out show quality.Lastly, Im new at this Forum stuff, so if I am supposed to be responding to only you or its posting it where its not suppose to be let me know. Im trying to figure it out also haha. Thanks again.
I need to keep better track of my posts!! The car was drive ready ... Kinda since I've been working on it since it rolled into the drive. You'll have around 15K in the new body and still have to get at least a donor for the frame and beginning suspension. Keep us posted with your progress and good luck on the build!
