Z28 Ignotion Problem
Got a 94 Z28 had it about 6 months love it. However my water pump went out. Replaced it. Drove it around town for little while. Now the car won't start. Reading around looks like the water pump and optical ignitor go out at around the same time.
Question is.
Do I have to replace the entire unit? $675 from the stealership, or $599 new one from MSD (available next month). aftermarket available little cheaper, but not same quality.
Or co I just need to replace the cap and rotor? about $150
any insite would be appreciated.
Also I already replaced the ECU 3 months ago, and I replaced the coil thinking that was the problem.

RE: Z28 Ignotion Problem
Replace the entire opti, especially if it got wet when you changed the water pump. IMO cap and rotor only change is a waste of time, because ther is a lot of electronic stuff that can go bad inside the housing.

RE: Z28 Ignotion Problem
Hey pdpallen you can buy the MSD opti from summit now at $499. Looks like i'm going to buy one in a few months my water pump has started leaking and it looks like it's been there a while. Hope this link works first time trying it.

RE: Z28 Ignition Problem
need help again. Replaced the opti, engine ran for a few minutes, very rough I might add. After I turned it off it has not started again.
Any suggestions would be nice. I am to the point where I may need to take it to a professional. If anyone has some advise I would appreciate it.
