Default Wrong Transmission in TransAm?

Alright so My mom recently bought a 93 Trans Am LT1. When we got it up to about 5k rpms we thought it was missing and the optispark was bad. Well we replaced the optispark and went out for a test drive. Same problem. Now As you guys know I am familiar with lt1 cars. This is my theory. The car has the wrong transmission. My 94 lt1 has a 4L60E, My 93 camaro had a 700R4. I looked at the connectors and the one on the transmission (in the T/A)is square and the the connector from the body is ovalish, not to mention its not even plugged into the transmission. Im thinking the car has a 4L60 in it NOT THE 4L60E ,just the plain old 4L60. Im thinking the car isnt miss firing, its just hitting a limiter and not allowing the car to shift. When you let off the throttle, its at that moment the car finally shifts. Anyone have anything to say about this theory being possible?

Ok, since the car in question is a 93, it has the 4L60, not the 4L60-E. What I would do is check the TV cable to make sure that it is in good working condition. I had the same problem in my Lincoln Mark VII with the AOD transmission. Check that out. I would also check out the ICM and coil for good measure.

Also, the 4L60 does not have a governor on it, as it is non electronically controlled.

Update btw. 1. we adjusted the kick down cable at the bracket and it helped the shifting no more "missing" But i think an aid in this problem is the Coolant temp sensor. We flashed codes and code 15 came up. So were gunna replace that In the morning cuz its effin hot right now. Then go from there.

What I would do is replace that sensor, then flush and bleed the cooling system. See here for details:
