Will a 96 Impala SS LT1 fit in a 91 Camaro RS?
A local guy has an 1996 Impala SS LT1 engine with computer wires and connection. Now I have the factory 305 V8 with a automatic tranmission and want more power. The reason he is getting rid of the engine is becuase of the rearend was wrecked and he works for the insurance company. My main question is will it fit and is it worth the time to swap the engines? he is charging me $700.00 for the LT1 with 87,000 miles. If this question has been posted b4 please point me to the link.
Jump On It. Depending On Which 305 You Have, Your Looking At Anywhere From 50 To 75 More Horsepower. If Your Thinking On Adding Mods, Your Gonna Be Able To Do Alot More With The LT1. It Will Bolt Up To Your Tranny And Motor Mounts Like A Glove. The Pain Will Be Changing Out The Computer and Harness But, If Ya Know A Little About Motors It Won't Be Too Bad. You Have To Do Alot To A 305 To Get Any Major Changes In Horsepower. My 305 Is Pushing Close To 350 HP But, I've Got Over 5 Grand In It. A Stock LT1 Has A HP Rating Of 275 I Believe Where A Stock 305 Depending On The Model Has Anywhere From A 170 To 245 HP. The Only Thing I'm Not Sure About Is Exhaust. You May Have To Alter It A Bit ... Maybe Not.
Thanks, for your reply
I really have know idea about repairing cars, but I love all gen Camaro's and have a garage and have no problem reaching out for help. That is way I named my car project " No Idea". I have hit forums and came to the conclusion that given my budget the LT1 is the way togo compared LSxx. I just need something to sign my name in the street you know a nice little neck jerkier. I also have read that I can pick up a 4th gen z28 posi rear-end versus buying a Eaton posi kit. My local salvage yards sales the whole rear-end for $100.00. I now know it will work so I will cut the check tonight then. Thanks again
