Default Who's done the LTCC LS1 Coil conversion? Got some questions.

Looking for anyone that's done the LTCC coil conversion. I want to know what brackets you used to mount the coils, the stock LS1 or custom. I'm trying to figure out a way to mount them without relocating the oil fill tube and PCV valve. I know there's enough room to mount them around those, but I don't really want to make my own mounts. I got some extra stock valve covers that I was just planning on welding some studs to and fitting the bracket to that, but just curious to see what others have done.

And also, the four wires in the LTCC harness that tap into the factory harness, Can someone post a pic of how these go because I've heard some story's about frying the LTCC module because of hooking those up wrong.

Thanks in advance.

It's easy man. I did mine and a buddy's. It's the best thing you'll ever do for your car, I swear. I'll double check the part number, but you can just unscrew the oil fill tube and get a cap that screws right into the valve cover making it almost flat, that's what I did. The PCV valve isn't an issue either, you won't need to mount them that far back and you can get them to sit just high enough to where they'll clear it if you do end up scooting them that far back. If you look on Bob Bailey's website, he has some links to some guys that sell brackets pre-fabbed if you wanna go that route. I'll throw some pictures of mine up later so you can see how i did mine. I made 4 "U" shaped alluminum brackets (2 per side) about and inch wide, 1/8 thick and the pre-bent length was about 6", drilled holes in them to mount them to the valve covers using the valve cover bolts and then just used the stock LS1 brackets that the coil packs come on and mounted them to the brackets. you can adjust the bends and the length of the straps (aluminum brackest) when you make them to get the coils to sit wherever you want them. I wouldn't do the stud welded to the valve cover route, I did that at first and it made changing the oil a pain in the ***. Again, I'll get you the pictures of mine so you can see if it'll help you. As for the 4 wires, I'll have to look at my instructions because I don't remember off the top of my head and you can't see any of that on mine, we hid it all when we mounted the box in the car. Good choice though, man. You'll be glad you spent the money for that setup, I promise.

Well I already got a set of used stock valve covers coming, 20 bucks off ebay, got a used set of 6.0 litre truck coils coming with harness/brackets. I think I'm just going to make my own brackets out of aluminum, worked with the stuff enough to make something decent. Just wanted to know if I could space them out in order to clear the fill tube and PCV, which I did a lot of searching and Bob sent me some good pics that cleared up that question. There will be more than enough room. I'm planning on welding some threaded tubing, about 3/8-3/4" to the valve covers and then mounting my brackets to that. I'm going to get really creative and make it look really good. Going to clean up the valve covers really good and sand and paint them a chevy orange engine paint. Thinking about polishing up the aluminum bracket I make or paint it black, offset the orange. I think I really need to clear up is those four wires. I've read so many people frying the chip by hooking those up wrong. I had the Delteq system for years and loved that kit, but it went out and the company was already out, so had to go back to stock. And I could tell the power lose, it depressed me how much I could tell it.

I was looking into the LTCC conversion to do on my Vette. I even picked up a set of LS1 coils, and am waiting to justify the project and cost. Have you thought about mounting the coils on the inner fenders, if there's any room? I've seen a simple mount that consists of short sections of small diameter pipe that fit between the coils, with a long threaded rod that passes through all 4 mounting holes. At each end would be an "L" bracket. The coils would stand on end, not flat like when on the valve cover. Mounting them together that way also keeps them very compact taking less room. If and when I ever do mine, I plan on mounting them that way, and off the engine. There are relocation kits made for the LS1 engine which allows you to move the coils off the engine, both to reduce coil heat and the obvious cosmetic reasons. Putting them on the valve covers would be my "last resort" choice.

I've seen a lot of different mounts, but I do like the valve cover mounting, I think that looks way better, and the wires are shorter to the plugs. Please the wire harness that comes with the LTCC module doesn't look that long and I wouldn't want to mess with extending the wires. I think all in all this project is going to cost me about 600 total, given I don't have to replace any of the used coils I picked up. And that 600 is about 300 less than what I paid for the Delteq system I did have. Very well worth it.

Default I did mine like this

I made a template out of cardboard then thin steel

Then I made a better one out of aluminum and painted with anodize paint

Nice, looks good man, those are the LS1 coils? What about the power increase? And any chance you can post a pic of the LTCC box, where you mounted it and then also the wires you have to tap into, can you post a pic of how those go?

you can see the ltcc on the right side by the fuse box in the last picture. As far as power increase, i don't know yet, Im putting a 4l80e trannie in right now. Car hasn't been driven in 5 years when the 4l60 broke. Been restoring it for the last few months. They are LS1 coils I bought off ebay which came with the factory connectors. I powered the LTCC right at the fuse box in front of it connecting to the ignition fuse. The opti harness plugs right in line with the opti harness on the passenger side intake manifold. The only other wire I had to hook up was the LTCC white wire which hooks to the white wire on the PCM pin 5 connector B (Ignition ctrl), this wire is also present by the front drivers head where the old factory ignition module was located.

That's a nice clean looking installation, I like it. And I see a lot of fancy notch work on the aluminum plates too. What did you use to cut them out?
