I mentioned the Innova 3140 because that's what I use. It works great on my 94 Z, as well as my 99, and my 02 Formula. It only costs $199 thru Amazon. But I bought mine a couple years ago. I don't knowv if it went up in price. Shipping was free.

Copied from another topic:

Unless you are dead-set on a handheld scanner, there are better ways to go. If you have a pc (laptop or desktop with a long USB extension) and buy/make an OBD1 cable ($20/$60) you have at least two options for a free pc-based scanner that can read trouble codes, reset them, read engine and transmission sensors and variables, and possibly read the ABS and SIR modules. One app is TunerProRT which is free with a nag screen (TunerPro and TunerPro RT - Professional Automobile Tuning Software). The scanner part is minimal, but with it you have the ability to modify the program in your PCM if wanted. The other is one I wrote, called Scan9495, which is specifically written for the 94 and 95 F-body cars and is all diagnostic capability (no programming/tuning) and is made to mimic the operation of a GM Tech1/Tech2 scantool.

The Actron CP9185 is going for $84 now on Amazon. If you have a 94, you would need to make some jumpers to go from the 16-pin connector to the 12-pin connector and use a 12v ac adapter, or buy the CP9127 kit.

'93 and '94 use the standard 12 pin OBDI connector and standard.

Some of the '95 models used the 16 pin connector, but have the OBDI standard.

Everything from '96 on used the 16 pin OBDII connector and standard.

The Actron CP9185 will connect to a '94 and read codes without a problem.

Just a FYI 94 is the first year for the OBD1 protocol which was a Government standard. The 93 and 94 may share a connector but they are very different. With a 93 you can pull codes with a paper clip just like the 80's GM cars, but not a 94. 93 has a ECM and a 94 has a PCM.

Some people call a everything pre-OBD 2 OBD1 but I work at a dealer on fuel injection until 1990 and I never heard the term OBD until I started working on 4th gens as a hobbyist almost 20 years later.
