im almost positive its the MAF plug. mines a 94 and it looks identical to that even the little purple rubber piece.

thanks guys, I see him on monday at the races so ill have a good look at his car. out of curiousity would the MAF not set a code, I believe its a 97 with OBDII ??

yes if the maf was unpluged it should set code and run in limp mode.
