What to do.....
I have an oppurtunity to get an'04 2500 HD with the 6.0 liter, I can get the truck for 1800.00, and I have a 95 camaro w/ 3.4 V-6, I know the extent of this swap, but I was wondering if anyone has any tips that could possibly help? I consider myself a shadetree mechanic and would feel very confident about the swap, (I'm not stupid!!!!), I think the power of this car would be well worth the trouble of the swap, I know I need throttle by wire, catalytic converters,MAF, fuel pump to keep up, everything.... has anyone done this besides GM?????, any pointers??????
What you all seem to be missing here is that Truck engines are tuned differently than sports engines... their engines are built for towing... meaning high torque.. our cars are tuned for speed and performance..
actually, anyone who is into racing/building motorswill tell you that the 6.0L in that truck is the perfect motor, its basically the same as the LS2 in the GTO/vette except it is an iron block, and has a cam designed for a truck with high torque. so its definately much stronger than the aluminum block LSx motor and only a little heavier.
get your self a custom grind cam, that builds HP higher up in the RPM band, with a good tq curve, maybee when they rebuild the motor they can throw it in for you.
you will for sure need custom fabbed motor mount's.
you will need a trans to support the power, a newer trans from a trailblazer SS should work.
you will need to beef up the rear end.
