I took out my rear seats today and seat belts...any other easy things i can remove? besides door panels...I want to make my car lighter...any ideas?

 

I would take out your spare tire and jack in the trunk. Of course if you drive the car on a regular basis might not be a good idea, but if you go to the track take em out. If you are using the car for racing only, take out the passenger seat. Hope that helps!!!

Air conditioning compressor would shave you off about 25 lbs + the reduced drag from the pullies. Also the heater core. That by itself doesn't weigh much, but water weighs 11 lbs/gallon but it's a mix of antifreeze too so it's a shade heavier. Going to a smaller sized tank or fuel cell would help shave weight cuz fuel is also heavy. Minimal weight losses would also be in the headliner. Using Laxen windows instead of glass is a great way to shave off weight, but then it wouldn't be street legal. Drum brakes are lighter than discs. Or using aluminum parts. Fiber glass hoods, and fenders (if applicable), deck lid, doors and so on. They even have full fiberglass bodies! http://www.up22.com If you haven't already, use all synthetic fluids such as trans, motor, and rear axle. You can upgrade your control arms to tubular style and save weight. I'm not sure what year you have, but Global West should have them. Radio removal (stock) removes 2 lbs on average. Carpet weighs about 25lbs. The padding is prolly another 15. Aluminum Drive Shaft. and so fourth.

Taking out the AC will not cause the engine to overheat, but there is a chance that the driver will get a little warm. LOL If it isn't used to make the car move, get rid of it.

 

werd...yeah it gets pretty hot in my car...but i can just open the windows...its worth the 25 lbs i will be taking off...what does the heating core do?

 

The haeter core produces heat for the passenger cpmpartment and fits under the dashboard. You can get rid of the entire heater/AC housing, including motors, air doors, etc. & save another 40 lb, and while you are there, throw out the windshield wiper & washer stuff. You don't usually race in the rain anyways. If you have the bux get a set of magnesium wheels, they weigh much less than the aluminum alloys. Get rid of the headlight and taillight assemblies and replace them with paper picture, get rid of all the airbag stuff, the car will be needing roll bars anyway. In the old days they used to soak the entire body in acid and let it sit there till the shetmetal was 1/2 the original thickness, good for 150-200 lb.

 

I had no idea you could do all that stuff. Is that what is normally taken out in drag cars to reduce weight? You all are awesome for posting that information!!!!
