V6 to LT1 - Pre-Planning Stages - Need Input
Hey guys, its been a long time since posting here, but i'll fill you in with what i have going on.
-95 3.4L camaro/auto trans. ~115k on the clock, very clean car for the year and mileage.
The car was originally my gf's first car, and after she picked up her new car, i bought it as a suprise for her. She really enjoyed the car, so i figured i'd pick it up and just keep it around as a toy.
As the car has built up miles, it's now starting to smoke initially upon start up after sitting for more than a day or so. The engine also tends to get hot if idling in traffic, and the car has no heat. I'm sure the last two items are related, thinking a plugged heater core. Anyways, rather than dump the money into a tired v6 car, i'm looking to upgrade. Now i know what you're saying, just buy a v8. Well, because of the sentimental value, i am keeping the car and looking to upgrade to a LT1 with an M6.
I have no intention of ever selling the car, so a v8 swap it will get. It will also serve as a rolling advertisement for my business - www.unique-coatings.com
I am looking to get 400rwhp RELIABLY out of the motor. I had initially looked into a 383 stroker build, or a mild cam/headwork with a supercharger, but i think at this time i want to stay N/A.
I plan to find a salvaged LT1/M6 that i can just swap components over to the car. However, while the engine is out, i'll be performing the modifications needed to turn it into a reliable car. No overheating in traffic, no having to worry about throwing a rod, or blowing a headgasket.
Money is no object (to a certain extent). Like I mentioned before, i will probably never sell this car, so i'd like to do it right the first time, and continue to build as the years go by, but I never want it to be anything other than a street car.
What modifications have you done, and what gains have you seen? What is going to be the most reliable way to get 400rwhp - btw - no nitrous.
Looking forward to your input.
Thanks!

RE: V6 to LT1 - Pre-Planning Stages - Need Input
I just made 385rwhp with a stock bottom end, huge cam and a set of AFR heads. For that stuff it is somewhat expenive but not too bad but what really hit my wallet hard were all the supporting mods. Timing chain kit, hi volume oil pump, lifters rockers and pushrods.
