Default transmission Q's

im about to do a major engin rebuild. scraping the LT1. puting in a carbed 385. its a pretttyyy powerfull motor. pulled a little more than 550 hp and 500tq. mt first set of things i need to ask is about the computer. if i throw this monster in my camaro obviously it does not have and computer controled componed on it. (smog equip)lets say i put it and and just disconect that part of the wire harnes and left the transmission componed conected, would it still shift? still work right?

the next thing i was wondering is what is the lt1 transmission raited for as far as power goes. what is the max hp it can take before its too mich. while on that none, what is the rear end rated for? what is a good read end that would work in a 96 z28? something strong.

oh one more quick one, the the bolt pattern on the tubro 400 transmission the same as the autto transmission from an LT1?

sounds to me like you're getting in a little over your head. this stuff should have been researched long before you decided to do anything. you will probably have to get a different wiring harness for the different engine. i don't even think a 4l60e will bolt up to that engine, and even if it does, you will need more beef to it before long. rear end? depends on how hard you are on it...the more launches the more stress you will cause on it. people make 12 bolt and 9" rearends specifically for lt1 f-bodies.

i'll take your old lt1 and build it to blow the doors off your carbed motor

Is this carbed motor a GenIII Chevy motor with an Opti, or is it a Gen I-II that has the distributor on the back of the motor?
If it's the first, you'll need your LT1 harness. If it's the latter, you probably won't need a wiring harness at all, but you just bit of a big bite of...something. You need to do a boatload of research if you actually want to get this done (by the way, I don't think I need to tell you "shoulda just built the LT1"). 500HP from just a motor (no drivetrain, no accessories except a water pump) isn't that hard to get, so don't be disappointed.

Oh, and the bolt pattern is not the same between the 4L60E and the THM400...

I was having trouble logging in for more than a week so thus the late reply

First- what is scraping a motor? I have never heard of having a motor scraped??? Do you mean having it bored at a shop?

And unless you are getting the powertrain for free, it will be less hassles and expense to just build up what you have. I suggest you listen to folks here and also post in the myriad of LT1 and camaro forums on the web and you'll get the same responses........why????

need to start your own thread and nope the v6 trany is different. u will need a trany from a z28 camaro. also need a bunch of other parts from a z28 camaro. start looking for a 94 95 z28 with a blown motor for parts. computer, wiring, dash, rear end, trany, engine bay and some parts im forgetting.

If he already has a good LT1, then it'll be a hell of a lot easier and less work to find a Z28 with a blown motor and put it in that, instead of using it for parts.

from what i've been told by the tranny shops a 4l60e is basically a glorified 700r4 elect soliod tranny and it has the same bolt pattern as a th400 so your 95 lt1 will bolt up you'll need a new crossmember and driveshaft redo
